Cupping & Cupping Massage

Used extensively all over the world, cupping has a rich history dating back thousands of years. Using a small suction pump, air is drawn out of the plastic cups placed on different areas of the body, creating a small vacuum allowing layers of muscles and fascia to be pulled apart for a deep therapeutic effect.

Considered a form of acupuncture, cupping extends beyond the stimulation of acupressure points. Cupping increases blood flow and releases myofascial restrictions and muscle spasms and may be used for cellulite treatment. Cupping also works well on scar tissue and chronic joint problems. Using cups over the lung areas during most respiratory conditions has been shown to be very effective, causing generally an immediate sense of relief from lung congestion. In addition, cupping can help with chronic inflammatory conditions and has a sedating effect on the nervous system.

Cups may be left on the body for a certain amount of time, usually up to 15 minutes, used to increase the therapeutic effect by putting additional torque and stretch to the tissues, or as a massage tool by moving them around as in a cupping massage.

Cups will leave marks where they have been placed. These marks may be visible for up to a week.
